Bridgeport, West Virginia will be the site of the 2008 World Highland Games Heavy Events Championship. This event, the annual championship for professionals, is sanctioned by the International Highland Games Federation. The 2008 championship will be held in Bridgeport in May 2008 in conjunction with the Scottish Festival and Celtic Gathering.
The 2008 qualifiers include athletes from Scotland, New Zealand, Canada, England, Ukraine, and the United States. We are hoping for some world records!
Our Scottish Festival and Celtic Gathering, under the leadership of Ann Watson, has grown rapidly over its first six years and received favorable reviews from exhibitors, participants, and attendees. The Festival’s success has made it possible for us to host the 2008 World Professional Championship.
Come on over (or up … or down) to our Festival in 2008! We are located about two hours south of the Pittsburgh airport in north central West Virginia. The Festival grounds are just off of Interstate 79 and easily reached over Interstates and other four lane highways from Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina and Washington, D.C. Our area has first rate motels and restaurants, we are within easy driving distance of an R.V. camp ground, and on the face of it we can’t think of any reason why you shouldn’t visit us and have a very good time!
